Welcome to Jacob’s Well Elementary!
This beautiful school in the heart of the hill country is focused on the academic and emotional needs of our students. We serve grades 2-5 and with an overall population of 642 students. We believe that all children are important and deserve the right to a good education as it will impact them throughout their lifetime. It is important to us that we are able to work together with parents to help students grow and develop. These critical elementary years will solidify a strong foundation of academic skills and personal characteristics. We want to provide opportunities for children to increase their knowledge base, expand their critical thinking skills, and explore creative talents.
Andrea Gonzales is starting her ninth year as a principal and fourth year as principal of JWE. Her 19 years in public education have been spent as an administrator, counselor, and elementary teacher. She believes that each professional opportunity has been crucial to her understanding of children and how they learn. She spent all of her childhood living in Heidelberg, Germany as her parents were teachers on a U.S. military base. This life overseas gave her a great sense of pride in being an American and also provided her with wonderful cultural experiences as she travelled throughout Europe and to parts of Africa. She returned to Texas and attended Tarleton State University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education with and emphasis on reading instruction. Her initial graduate coursework included 15 hours in Gifted and Talented Instruction. This was followed by a Masters of Education with an emphasis in Guidance and Counseling. She then completed an additional 36-hour graduate program at Texas State for Principal Certification.
While in the classroom as a teacher, she was selected to conduct research on reading instruction for SEDL and her students maintained a high rate of success. She believes that an elementary classroom should be interesting, challenging, and fun. She wants students to understand that sometimes work is difficult but that overall learning is interesting. She hopes that all students here find that they are cared for and that they are engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
Andrea loves Wimberley and is appreciative of her opportunity to work with the great people of this community. She says “Our students, their families, and our teachers are what make this an incredible school.”
When not at Jacob’s Well Elementary school, Andrea enjoys time with family and friends. She has been married for 19 years and has two boys. She loves sports, traveling, and great movies.
